This audio archive contains a sampling of my work and a brief introduction to each story outlining my approach to it. Different traditions of writing are represented (from rollicking tale-telling to late-century naturalism) and I use different approaches for each project. If there is something that you’d like to hear that you do not see in this archive, I’d love whatever feed-back you have to offer. And I take requests.

I wrote this story myself in the span of about 5 hours. Inspired by the exotic descriptions of some of the fancy cheeses that I’ve encountered, it is my intention to create an entire archive of similarly outrageous stories about cheese in a variety of genres.
The original idea for the cheese stories came from my good friend Allison Blake Schofield: http://wordstoobigtoread.com/CraftCarvings.htm who has for sale hand-carved slate cheese boards among her other work.
If anyone would like to contribute a cheese story, I’d be glad to consider recording more. Here is a link to a list of ideas that I had that I think would make great cheese stories in the spirit of this archive: http://graftonvoice.com/section/_private/cheese_ideas/

I feel like this story provides a lot of opportunities for a voice actor. I approached this as if I were reading for “Selected Shorts.”:http://www.symphonyspace.org/shorts/shorts_radio This story has strong dialogue and complex characters. One challenge of this piece was that I had to convey what is really going on the the characters’ heads, while using only the words that the characters said out loud. I rather like the way it turned out.

Some authors really see to the heart of the human condition. I think that Jen Chura is one of them. She kindly allowed me to record this story for this website and I am very pleased with how it turned out. It is about identity. It is about meaningful existence. And it is about children playing in the snow.

MDS Price and I often ask each other for help on creative projects. He was kind enough to let me record this story for this website. I am drawn to the drama, passion, and romance of the story. I look forward to finding other projects that allow me to continue to explore this style of dramatic narration.

This may be my favorite recording on this site. The author requested that I record this project in a quite, simple style – I think to reflect the dream-like serenity of the 1st person narrator. The unadorned, elegant prose carries all the meaning that, as a voice actor, I would otherwise have had to interpret through inflection and emphasis.

An analysis of the value of one delicate life and the effect of that life on those around it. This is an example of how dramatically a story can change with the telling. After several recordings of this story I settled on this version which, I hope, most accurately portrays the narrator’s nuanced emotions and the author’s intent.
